Whether as a stand-alone\u00a0organization or through a collective voice with partners<\/a>, SLSC strives to be a\u00a0well-informed and strong advocate to meaningfully address social and criminal\u00a0justice issues.<\/b><\/span><\/p>

We conduct\u00a0<\/span>research projects<\/span>\u00a0every year that\u00a0respond to the evolving landscape of criminal justice issues in Canada, and we often\u00a0<\/span>participate in research studies conducted by others<\/span>. For us, part of\u00a0being an informed advocate means conducting research\u00a0that is relevant to and informed by our members, who see firsthand the issues\u00a0impacting our communities.<\/span>
<\/b><\/span><\/p>

By using what we learn, SLSC can\u00a0actively engage with others to\u00a0bring perspectives and expertise\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from across\u00a0our network<\/span>. Likewise, we can share\u00a0perspectives and expertise from others with\u00a0our network to help keep them informed about the most up to date evidence and\u00a0practices that can benefit their communities.\u00a0<\/span>

Current Priorities<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

SLSC regularly seeks information from our members on what they consider to be their most pressing local and national issues.\u00a0 We review and organize this information into themes that guide our activities. Currently, our four priority areas are:<\/p>

  1. promoting healthy environments and improving access to health<\/strong> and mental health care<\/strong> for criminalized and marginalized populations;<\/li>
  2. enhancing community corrections<\/strong> capacity for integration supports through adequate resources and communications with Federal partners;<\/li>
  3. establishing meaningful access to safe, affordable housing<\/strong>; and,<\/li>
  4. raising awareness about community-based criminal and social justice services<\/strong> that directly contribute to safer, supported, and healthier communities.<\/li><\/ol>

    We see these four priorities as being connected in ways that significantly affect justice-involved people and the broader public. Our small but dedicated team of staff and volunteers strive to take on activities each year that focus on meaningfully addressing these issues from a national perspective.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    Every year, SLSC published various reports. Some are prepared as a final product of funded research projects, whereas others are prepared on a topic that is of particular interest to SLSC, our members, and\/or our partners.
